Meaning “ragged” or “tattered”, the boro style was created by generation of families whose textiles would acquire more and more patches. Covered in indigo “scraps”, this indigo dyed shirt is a beautiful rendition of a style favoured by nineteenth and early twentieth-century rural Japanese.
