Mastermind JAPAN and COTODAMA continue their ongoing partnership this season, combining cutting-edge technology with Homma’s Gothic sensibility.
Masaaki Homma founded mastermind JAPAN in 1997 with a clear focus: to prioritise the use of premium materials and place a heavy emphasis on minute details. This season, Homma continues his ongoing partnership with COTODAMA, bringing that passion for elevated craft and innovation to the forefront.
The result is a rework of COTADAMA’s signature Lyric Speaker Box, which is inspired by the origins of the Japanese label’s name — COTADAMA is a rough translation to “spirit of language”. That’s reflected in the label’s “Lyric Sync Technology” — after connecting the speaker up to your wi-fi, you can begin playing your favourite music and watch the lyrics displayed via its LCD screen. The technology works by analysing the lyrics, chords and melodies of the music, which then automatically selects the optimal style and tempo to display the lyrics. Masaaki Homma’s Gothic influences come in by way of the fine details, with the speaker box engraved with block letter font and mastermind JAPAN’s iconic skull and crossbones motif.
