The PUMA sneaker of choice is PUMA’s GV Special, a reissued, archival silhouette which first rose to popularity on the feet of Argentinian tennis legend Guillermo Vilas in the ‘80s. Guillermo Vilas was recognised for his big hair, head band and tube socks, but remembered for his one handed backhand and charm off the court — a stylish lefthanded baseliner. Vilas won over 650 games on a clay surface, a record that remains today even after Rafael Nadal’s career. In 1977, Vilas won 21 ATP and ILTF titles, two majors on clay and began his 53-match winning streak on a clay surface — a record which remained until 2006 until it was beaten by Nadal.

Taking inspiration from the distinctive visuals of clay courts, PUMA’s GV Special is reworked in white, ecru and orange to directly nod to the competition’s iconic courts. Subtle hits of green are worked into the heels and tongues, the latter detailed with a bespoke, serving player graphic and END. branding. Towards the heel, gold foil number designation signifies the shoe’s exclusivity, with just 500 pairs of the END. x PUMA GV Special “Clay” being made.

The END. X PUMA GV Special “Clay” will launch via END. Launches on the 7th June.
