END. X ADIDAS 'BAUHAUS'
20 February 2023Delving into the world of Bauhaus for inspiration on their latest collaboration, END. and adidas share a trio of footwear styles that look to the iconic German school for guidance.
Transforming the Bermuda, Handball Spezial and ZX420 silhouettes, the British retailer and the German sportswear brand tap the 20th century movement of Bauhaus, relaying the influential school’s aesthetic vision through the lens of modern sporting footwear.
Operating between 1919 and 1933, the Staatliches Bauhaus was an art school founded in Weimar, Germany, by Walter Gropius, that focussed on a Modernist approach to art, design and architecture. Creating objects and art under the notion that form follows function, the Bauhaus movement aimed to bring art and design back into contact with our everyday lives. Combining bold typography, block colours and architectural forms, Bauhaus’ influence has continued beyond the early 20th century, with iconic pieces from Kandinsky, Breuer, Klee and more heralded as some of the century’s most important and influential works.
Applying the infamous movement’s approach to a trio of classic adidas styles, END. draw inspiration from the instantly recognisable Bauhaus colour palette. Cast in a Team Yellow suede, the Bermuda shoe is punctuated with red and blue, with adidas’ Three Stripes reflecting Bauhaus’ penchant for geometrical shapes and layered forms. The Handball Spezial sneaker combines plush suede with Navy and Hazy Blue tones, with gold foil branding adding a flourish of adidas’ trademark style. Completing the pack is a muted twist on the ZX420 – a retro runner replete with Bauhaus charm. All three silhouettes are embellished with END. branding to the tongue and aglets, while further nods to the Bauhaus movement sit pride of place at each shoe’s woven tongue patch.
The END. x adidas “Bauhaus” capsule will launch online via END. Launches on 24th February.
