EditorialADIDAS SPZL X C.P. COMPANY
7 November 2024adidas SPZL continues its 10-year anniversary celebrations by partnering with iconic Italian outerwear label C.P. Company.
When C.P. Company and adidas SPZL first came together in 2021, it marked the celebration of the heralded Italian brand’s 50th anniversary, culminating in the much-loved Italia CP SPZL trainer. Now, the two are back, this time shining a spotlight on another momentous occasion: adidas SPZL’s 10th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the collection is comprised of both footwear and apparel, captured on an ensemble of the two labels’ long-time confidants. Including Ashley Walters, Stephen Graham, Goldie, Robert Brooks and Toby Mclellan, a cinematic tale drifts between documentary and theatrical performance weaving a narrative of camaraderie and celebration.
The footwear offering features six unique adidas SPZL silhouettes, each one reworked through the lens of C.P. Company. The first, the CP Wimberly SPZL, takes inspiration from a rare perorated Canadian version of the adidas Universal from the ‘80s, arriving in two different material makeups. The first version uses shades of white and cream in a similar palette that nods to the colourway of the vintage Universal, though it’s updated with modern and premium materials. The leather upper arrives with webbing three tripes and zig zag deco stitching, as well as serrated eye stays and a perforated toe box. The second iteration, meanwhile, features an entirely suede base for the uppers.

The CP Helvellyn SPZL — which is inspired by the adidas Nepal, a hi-top outdoor boot — is a winder-ready silhouette in a classic sand and grey colourway, comprised of suede overlays, ballistic mesh underlays and gun-metal D-rings, in addition to a gusseted tongue and outdoor leather lining. The CP SL83 SPZL, meanwhile, is an extension of the design language of the adidas SL82, with an added T-toe and a mix of different materials, creating slightly different shades of olive green on the upper. Two SPZL icons make their return, too, with both the CP Manchester SPZL and CP Italia SPZL brought back under the spotlight. The CP Manchester SPZL is reintroduced for the anniversary and reinterpreted through the lens of C.P. Company, updated with premium materials, added eyelets and zig zag stitching on the stripes. The CP Italia SPZL, meanwhile, is brought back in a premium leather makeup with a suede T-toe and a royal blue and white colourway, nodding to the previous collaboration.
The apparel, meanwhile, offers a bold revision of classic looks, bridging both the legendary Italian label and Gary Aspden’s ongoing homage to the Tree Stripes archive. The apparel playfully integrates the design language of SPZL into the graphic iconography of C.P. Company, namely the C.P. Company sailor and the graphic placements on the 1980s Mille Miglia jackets. A sweatshirt is printed with a rework of the iconic C.P. Company sailor graphic, dressed head to toe in an adidas SPZL outfit, while both short and long sleeve tees nod to the graphics of early C.P. Company Mille Miglia jackets. The graphic approach continues with a collaborative logo tee and a half zip knit, the latter detailed with an update on the first ever SPZL Mod Trefoil from 2014. A matching track top and pants, meanwhile, are produced in fine-needle cord that offers a premium take on the Settend 2 tracksuit released by adidas SPZL in 2015. At the centre of the apparel offerings are two outerwear jackets: the CP SPZL Puffer Jacket and the CP SPZL Flying jacket, both boasting the highest level of Italian craftsmanship and detachable branding.
THE ADIDAS SPZL X C.P. COMPANY COLLECTION WILL LAUNCH VIA END. LAUNCHES ON 12TH NOVEMBER.
