The fourth and final pair to celebrate the 30th anniversary of adidas’ Torsion system, the ZX9000 carries on where the previous pairs left off. Faithful to its OG 1989 release, this iteration wears wonderful mint green and striking scarlet accents across its lightweight mesh and suede upper, with a subtle yellow tinge to the midsole to give an authentic vintage appearance. Despite grabbing the attention of sneakerheads with its striking colourway, the pair was, first-and-foremost, a running sneaker. And a great one, too.
With an external heel cage providing achilles support, the celebrated Torsion system sits underfoot, allowing the forefoot and heel to adapt to surfaces independently while offering increased stability. A combination that’s continued to feature in numerous Three-Stripe models over the subsequent three decades, this throwback pair – along with the previous three – serves to highlight just how far the innovative ‘80s advanced sneaker technology.
