Nike and Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons Homme Plus extend their ongoing partnership, reworking the iconic Foamposite in black and white colourways.
Back in 1997, Nike released the Air Foamposite: a groundbreaking, tech-filled shoe designed for performance on the courts. It caused shockwaves in both the basketball and sneaker communities, largely thanks to its bold aesthetic and technical, aerodynamic construction.
It makes perfect sense that the shoe would get the nod in the Swoosh’s latest partnership with Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, given Rei Kawakubo’s penchant for the avant-garde. The shoe comes in two colourways — black and white, just as you’d expect from the labels — and features tweaks that push the experimental look even further.
The shoe’s Foamposite uppers are given a dramatic makeover — inspired by Rei Kawakubo’s time spent working in a darkroom to heighten her sixth senses — and detailed with an intricate, spiral-effect pattern. To further elevate the shoe, there are leather overlays used across the uppers, as well as contrasting branding printed at the heels.
