28 August 2023New Balance and Testu Nishiyama’s WTAPS join forces for an understated take on the 990 v6.
Tetsu Nishiyama’s WTAPS has a deep affinity for New Balance, in particular the brand’s coveted Made in US range and its bevy of sought-after sneakers. Following on from their 990 V2 in 2021, New Balance and WTAPS join forces to continue with the greyscale theme, this time bringing the sixth generation of the sneaker on board.
The approach is understated and premium, with hues of grey featuring throughout the sneaker’s plush suede and breathable mesh uppers. Perhaps the biggest deviation from the sneaker’s norm comes by way of a heel panel, which features “USA” printed in lieu of the usual model designation. Elsewhere, collaborative branding is kept subtle, with the Japanese label’s name worked into the insole and heel.
