Wacko Maria explore multiple sources for AW21, creating a collection that showcases their eclectic taste.
Wacko Maria is label you could describe as rebellious, bold, experimental. But really, using any of those words is just scratching the surface of what the label is all about. The reasoning for this comes down to founders, Keiji Ishizuka and Atsuhiko Mori, and their diverse tastes. Music, art, film and football — the two played professionally in Japan’s J-League prior to becoming fashion designers — are counted as just some of their interests.
What results is collections, like AW21, that channel an abundance of different styles and interests, all while heavily leaning in on a bold, rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic.
Like usual with the label, popular films and music are referenced throughout the collection, while classic styles like cardigans, crews and Hawaiian shirts are elevated using premium materials and eccentric patterns — ranging from psychedelic spider’s webs to leopard print.
