With New Balance’s iconic 990 turning 40 this year, the label commemorates the occasion with the “Version Series”, this time bringing the V4 under the spotlight.
In 1982, New Balance had the idea to create the pinnacle of performance runners; a shoe that would push the envelope in terms of materials, technology and comfort. That shoe was the 990: a sneaker that’s momentum is still as palpable today, 40 years after it made its debut with the legendary V1.
In celebration of that milestone, New Balance has been spotlighting each generation of the fan-favourite sneaker with the “Version Series”, this time bringing 2016’s V4 under the spotlight.
The shoe comes in a grey and white, New Balance-synonymous colourway, which covers the premium suede and mesh uppers and that supportive, ENCAP-cushioned sole unit. Just like previous releases from the “Version Series”, there are pops of ruby red throughout to commemorate the shoe’s 40th anniversary, worked into the sidewall tabs, tongues and heels.
