South African sneaker boutique Shelflife have joined forces with local artist/designer Dr.Zulu to create a shoe inspired by Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city, hence the 'City of Gold'. The pair took this inspiration and brought some edge to New Balance's retro running classic, the 574. Working in references to the indestructible Parktown Prawn king cricket through a lace lock and rubber keyring and stylized diamond symbols on the 3M reflective heels to represent traditional African tribal artwork. The dark hues of charcoal and black are broken with flashes of yellow, a colour up to echo the local train system. The premium detailing continues on through yellow lace tips and a canvas carry bag, but most notably two interchangeable velcro 'N' logos. Made up of mesh, nubuck and pigskin suede, this original shape sits upon a yellow speckled rubber outsole with C-Cap cushioning.
