VAULT BY VANS REUNITES WITH SARAH ANDELMAN FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Reuniting with Sarah Andelman, Vault by Vans celebrate International Women’s Day 2022 by enlisting a group of four inspiring women from around the world, brought together to deliver a plethora of styles that rejoice in their creativity and individuality.
Renowned for her work as former creative director of Colette, and her current work as the founder of publishing and creative agency Just An Idea, Sarah Andelman has spent her time carefully cultivating a world of creativity that blurs the lines between fashion, music, art and design. An instrumental figure within both the worlds of fashion and streetwear, Sarah has curated over 200 exhibitions, planning hundreds of visually immersive and innovative installations and initiated countless collaborations and brand partnerships. A true storyteller, Sarah has teamed up with Vault by Vans to champion and platform her diverse network of inspiring women for 2022’s International Women’s Day to #breakthebias at their event in Paris.
“I have always been a Vans lover,” says Sarah Andelman. “For this Vault by Vans collection, I immediately thought of these four creative women I met in different cities, different years, all under different contexts but they all share a passion for what they do, and they’re all amazing in dealing with their work and personal life. I hope their collections reflect their philosophies and will be appreciated by women of all ages.”
SINDISO KHUMALO
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Sindiso Khumalo is a fashion and textile designer who met Sarah in 2020 when she was named as a finalist for the prestigious LVMH prize. Founding her eponymous label in 2015, Sindiso focussed her approach on sustainable design, uplifting women of colour and telling the story of her African heritage. Transposing this same ethos to her Vault by Vans capsule, Sindiso uses her mother as a central source of inspiration. Incorporating illustrations of her mother on her wedding day in traditional Zulu attire, Sindiso’s Vans by Vault designs celebrate the convergence of the old and new.
SOKO
Twice nominated for a César Award and twice nominated for a Lumiere Award, French singer-songwriter, musician, actress and multi-hyphenate extraordinaire Soko first launched her career as a musician in 2012. Renowned for her uncompromising and astounding access to emotion, Soko seeks to investigate and obliterate the façades and social conditioning that repress emotions. For her Vault by Vans capsule, Soko revisits memories of her early childhood with bright, playful illustrations of her cat, Felix, that are seen across the Old Skool V Platform for adults and the Old Skool V for children.
FUMIKO IMANO
A highly acclaimed artist, Fumiko Imano first met Sarah Andelman through Colette when the store stocked her self-published photo books, featuring a body of work that compiled photo montages, 35mm self-portraits and cut'n'paste techniques to create a twin-like motif. Utilising her solo exhibition “Somehow Somewhere Sometimes at Some Place for Some Reason”, which was on view at Kosaku Kanechika Gallery in 2020, as inspiration for her Vault by Vans capsule collection. Featuring a photoprint across each panel, vibrant safety yellow canvas uppers and handwritten typographic prints complete the unconventional and highly personal aesthetic.
JULIA CHIANG
A multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, Julia Chiang met Sarah Andelman when she was exhibiting her work at the Colette gallery in 2012. Working with paint and ceramics to create detailed pieces with repetitive markings and forms, Julia's work both reveals and celebrates the beauty of imperfection. For her capsule collection, Julia imagined how her creations would live within the real world – how they would sink into sand, dip into water, and be worn on the streets. Her goal with the collection was to share the joy and nostalgia she feels when she thinks of Vans and her creations with theirs.
