EditorialConverse & thisisneverthat Celebrate the “New Vintage”
28 October 2021This season, Converse and thisisneverthat partner for the first time, creating a collection centred around “New Vintage”.
Seoul-based thisisneverthat is renowned for drawing from multiple different sources, creating an interwoven tapestry of style that nods to everything from underground music to art. Since the label was founded in 2010, a key focus has remained consistent: a deep appreciation for ‘90s culture.
This season, thisisneverthat links up with Converse for their debut collaboration, bringing their shared love of ‘90s culture to the forefront with this editorial featuring skateboarders Nassir Roumou and Alexander Hatfield. Two of Converse’s iconic shoes are used in the capsule — the Chuck 70 and the One Star — with both transformed to achieve a “New Vintage” look.
The Chuck 70 features hairy, pale yellow suede across the uppers, while the One Star is detailed with a navy blue nubuck material. Both sneakers come with aged midsoles — yellow for the Chuck 70, black for the One Star — and green outsoles to further the retro-inspired aesthetic. Reworked, co-branded details add a contemporary touch, embodying the capsule’s ‘New Vintage’ aesthetic. The same approach is taken with the apparel, with relaxed fits and co-branded graphics celebrating a modern take on that ’90s streetwear aesthetic.
The Converse x thisisneverthat collection launches on 4th November at END.
