John Elliott, mastermind JAPAN and END. partner this season, with the American designer’s styling reworked from a darker, punk-focused angle.
Sharing similar traits, both John Elliott and Masaaki Homma are renowned for their meticulous approach to craft, with every minute detail looked at in a microscopic fashion. Fabrics, construction, treatments, fit – everything is carefully considered with an uncompromising approach to quality and detail – a shared love that is immediately clear in their debut collaborative collection.
John Elliott’s garments are used as the canvas for experimentation, with everything from his utilitarian parkas to his staple athleisure brought under the spotlight. The aesthetic, however, leans closer to mastermind JAPAN’s punk sensibility. The palette, for example, is typical of Masaaki Homma’s darkened approach, with a charcoal grey hue used throughout. The same can be said for the branding: Homma’s iconic skull logo is used heavily throughout the collection, appearing printed in both supersized and smaller forms.
To reflect Homma and Elliott’s love of premium craft, an abundance of the materials used in the collection are made in Japan. Tees are also constructed using a luxurious and soft cashmere fabric, while a holographic terry material, featuring on matching hoodies and joggers, is used to give a bold and experimental appearance. A cold-dyeing treatment is a key feature, too, used on the parka, tees and athleisure styles to offer a worn-in look of old favourites.
The John Elliott x mastermind JAPAN presented by END. collection will launch online via END. Launches on 13th November 2021.
