Joe Freshgoods’ partnerships with New Balance are often underpinned by strong narratives, tapping into a unique blend of history and culture that connects the dots between individuals. It’s an approach that extends to his ongoing collaborations with New Balance, with the latest being no exception.
Mixed-Material Uppers
The Chicago-based designer’s ongoing series with New Balance, “Conversations Amongst Us”, is back again this season. The creative joins Black Soles — an employee-led group fostering supportive and impactful space for Black employees — with the ever-popular 2002r being the sneaker of choice.

The sneaker itself is designed with cues taken from historical traditions and cultural styles of communication. The yellow, aged tone of the sneaker, for instance, is a reference to the tradition of putting on a fresh pair of white sneakers, something that's now considered "age-old". The materials, meanwhile, are inspired by the benefits received from social gatherings; ripstop refers to resilience, tinted TPU overlays to transparency and reflective details to personal development.
