When Belgian designer Raf Simons unveiled his SS'17 runway collection in Florence each look included a printed rendition of a piece of work from divisive American photographer, Robert Mapplethorpe. Famed for imagery composed almost entirely in a highly stylized black and white palette, Mapplethorpe's back catalogue features multiple self portraits, taken throughout his career. Three self portraits, lifted from a contact sheet, have been printed to the left-hand side of this lightweight cotton, still bearing the marks made by Mapplethorpe as he selected the image he preferred.
