A well-worn path for fossil hunters and outdoor enthusiasts alike, the North East coastline of England offers beautiful stretches of sandy dunes, vast rock pools and stony beaches rife with fossils to discover - the perfect place to reflect, unwind and take in the beauty of the natural world on our doorstep.
Offering respite from the hustle and bustle of city life, a 20-minute trip from the heart of Newcastle places you directly at the coast of Whitley Bay, and an hour-long amble North, passing the St. Mary’s Lighthouse landmark, will see you arrive in Seaton Sluice – a beautiful stretch of beach and a prime location for diving into the world of fossil hunting.
Kitted out in the latest Arc’Teryx outerwear to ensure they’re ready for any inclement conditions Mother Nature could through at them, four staff members from END.’s Newcastle upon Tyne flagship ventured to the coast in search of adventure. Travelling from the city’s instantly recognisable Grey’s Monument via Metro to the coastal town of Whitley Bay, the four took to the beaches and rock pools in search of million-year-old fossils embedded in the beach’s Carboniferous coal measures.
Finally arriving at Seaton Sluice’s historic Harbour View for a well-deserved fish and chips, the North East coastline serves as an idyllic place to decompress and re-engage with nature – an oasis of natural wonder that lies a mere stone’s throw from the concrete jungle.
