It marked the inaugural sneaker in the brand’s SL range, meaning “super light”, embodying adidas’ commitment to pioneering lightweight footwear for speed and agility on track. Now, over five decades since the sneaker’s inception, the SL 72 has shifted from its performance roots to representing a mainstay in casual settings, its retro charm and classic design cues pairing seamlessly with city wear. The latest from adidas embodies what makes the sneaker so coveted, with a vintage-inspired brown, yellow and maroon colourway, alongside an SL 72 RS — which features a chunkier, contemporary sole unit — in a classic blue, white and red colourway.
