Nike and Matthew Williams continue their ongoing partnership this season, reworking their ground-breaking Zoom 4 in subtle shades of brown.
Matthew Williams and Nike first joined forces in 2018, forging a harmonious partnership that would lead to several more collaborations. Each one has been fuelled by a mutual love of technical design, though the creation that really pushed things to the next level is the Zoom 4: arguably one of the boldest sneakers ever created.
The two are back with another version of the boundary-pushing shoe, and this time it’s subtler — only in terms of colour, with understated shades of brown and black used throughout. The construction is given the same experimental approach as always, with elements from the Swoosh’s archives combined with Williams’ hyper-futuristic aesthetic.
The uppers are designed to give that techy, early-’00s aesthetic, only they’re reworked using high-tenacity mesh and detailed with no-sew overlays to give a streamlined appearance. The sneaker's most notable feature comes by way of the Zoom Air-cushioned sole — it’s oversized, folded and detailed with Waffle-like traction to mimic the track of utility vehicles.
