Martine Rose is a designer whose work is deeply immersed in the subcultural, often creating garments with a rich narrative running throughout them. Elements of subcultures are often taken, subverted and reworked from an unconventional angle, something which is perfectly captured by Rose’s second collaboration with Nike.
Mule-Like Upper
Nike’s iconic Shox is the footwear of choice — chosen for its resonance in underground UK subcultures — though the approach taken is a vast departure from what we’re familiar with.
Reworked Shox Cushioning
The end result is something more akin to a high heel than a sneaker, with that famous Shox cushioning raised to create an elevated platform. The rest of the shoe is equally as experimental, with uppers that reference the Jamaican-British designer’s signature mules.
