Maison Margiela is the luxury Paris haute couture house founded in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela and Jenny Meirens — a label built on identity, conceptualism, minimalism and a fascination with how garments transform once worn. Like many of Belgium’s greats, Margiela trained at Antwerp’s Royal Academy, though he wasn’t technically part of the famed Antwerp Six — more the unofficial seventh, already in Paris working under Jean Paul Gaultier.
The Margiela Tabi boot quickly became a signature, and the Replica line, spanning sneakers, like the Maison Margiela Replica sneaker, a reproduction of the 1970s German Army Trainer, clothing, and later fragrances, evolved into a cult pillar of the brand. MM6 launched in 1997 as the house’s contemporary diffusion line, evolving to include a men’s MM6 Maison Margiela offering.
Under creative director Glenn Martens, Maison Margiela’s Artisanal atelier continues to reinterpret the house’s codes across couture and ready‑to‑wear.
