Inspired by Tisci's memories of travel between London and India, the latest offering from Burberry defines the brand's visual identity with aplomb.
Having taken over at the helm of the inimitable British label, Burberry, in 2018, Riccardo Tisci has carefully constructed a unique vision of the brand that is truly his own.
Ensuring that the legacy and heritage of the 164-year-old company is maintained, while extending the brand's distinctive visual style, the Italian fashion designer has cultivated a sensibility that combines classic British tailoring with a forward-thinking and luxurious, modern aesthetic.
Heavily informed by Burberry's signature Nova check pattern, Tisci offers a contemporary interpretation of the brand's DNA; a declaration of his intentions to both modernise the brand and preserve their rich history in tandem.
Titled "Memories", Burberry's AW20 presentation in Kensington Olympia’s National Hall, London, saw the brand offer a representation of Tisci's memories of travelling between London and India. A collection that reflected on important moments in the past, offering a new perspective on a bygone era. Interpreting this notion into the brand's garments, the iconic Burberry Nova check reigned supreme, cast across a plethora of garments and accessories.
The instantly recognisable signifier of the brand, the check pattern was reworked, while deconstructed techniques altered classic trench coats, shirts and traditional sportswear pieces, to ensure that Burberry's past was seen through a new and exciting lens.
Honouring the past of Burberry's long lineage of British design, Tisci ensures that his direction and practice continues to build on the foundations of the brand without repeating itself.
