Swedish design force Acne celebrate the endless potential of denim with their Blå Konst collection.
Swedish design force Acne Studios announced their diffusion line Blå Konst (translation: blue art) earlier this year, explaining that the permanent seasonal collection would allow Acne to continue leading the market in denim design while leaving space for greater experimentation in their mainline collection.
This decision came as no shock to longstanding Acne Studios fans, given the brand's initial position as one of the finest purveyors of denim in the world. Johansson launched the Swedish house in 1997 with 100 pairs of raw denim jeans and the category was critical to the label’s rise, driving a substantial portion of early interest and sales. Given this key strand in Acne's DNA, the decision to develop a denim-centric subline was a natural step for the label.
Speaking on the decision, Acne founder and Creative Director explained that Blå Konst would become a free space for the design team to continuously study and experiment with denim without becoming pigeonholed in an intensely competitive global fashion landscape.
