Renowned for merging his form of streetwear with a dose of Italian sartorial aesthetics, Francesco Ragazzi presents the latest offering from Palm Angels. Proliferating his tongue-in-cheek sense of humour, the Milan-based label combines a plethora of graphics with a sportswear and streetwear outlook. Founded in 2014, Palm Angels began life as a photo book by Ragazzi, offering a black-and-white depiction of the LA skateboarding scene from the Italian's perspective. Following on from the success of the book, the Moncler artistic director presented his first collection for AW15 at Milan Fashion Week. Now a mainstay within the luxury calendar, Palm Angels move from strength to strength, delivering the finest in high-end sportswear with a subtle twist of formality.
Entrenched in their distinctive visual style, Palm Angels offer a wealth of charm rooted in their Old English logo and new appliqué heart motif, proudly applied to the chest. Encapsulating the dichotomy between streetwear stylisation and the rich history of Italian fashion design, Ragazzi deftly moves between both separate modes to cultivate a union between the two. A celebration of difference and the middle ground that links tradition and the future, Palm Angels oversee the fusion of styles to create a thoroughly modern aesthetic.
Offering up a rendition of the brand's signature tracksuit, the label redefines the activewear style with an all-over deer motif and a real-tree woodland camouflage. Pleats to the track pants add a flourish of formality to the fit, while taped outseams ensure that the overarching sportswear sensibility is never too far removed. Imbued with a touch of punk spirit, Palm Angels are not sentimental about their childhood. Presenting a depiction of a beheaded teddy bear, the brand's playful streak takes a darker turn.
