CultureEND. TALKS: An Evening with Kerri Chandler Presented by Sub Club
26 July 2022END. headed north of the border with the next instalment in END. Talks, inviting house music icon Kerri Chandler and Sub Club boss Mike Grieve.
To mark the second instalment in END. Talks, an ongoing series which sees prominent cultural figures invited to our flagship stores to discuss thoughts and ideas, END. headed north of the border to the retailer’s Glasgow store on Ingram street.
The evening included an intimate discussion between seminal New Jersey house luminary, Kerri Chandler, and Sub Club head honcho Mike Grieve. For over three decades, Kerri Chandler has been a close friend of Sub Club and a mainstay in its lineups — a staple figure and a key proponent in the institute’s underground music scene. Through Kerri’s regular visits to the legendary basement club on Jamaica Street, Kerri and Mike have developed a close friendship, one born out of a mutual love of electronic music and the culture it's deeply entrenched in. It all made perfect sense that Sub Club would feature on Kerri’s forthcoming album, Spaces & Places: a project which was recorded, written and performed on location in 24 legendary clubs across the globe.
Kicking the evening off, Kerri and Mike sat down to discuss Kerri’s introduction to the world of music; a step that seemed natural given his father, Joseph Chandler, was a renowned DJ during the ‘70s and ‘80s. Kerri also delved into his love of all things technical and his background in engineering, touching on topics ranging from his meticulous approach to set ups and sound, to the time he sent music into space. Fans and regular DJs at Sub Club also had an intimate discussion with Kerri towards the end, discussing their experiences at Sub Club and the importance of perseverance with DJing.
