New Balance and Teddy Santis’ Aimé Leon Dore have a deep appreciation for delving into the archives, unearthing long-forgotten gems and elevating them in the contemporary sphere. It was an approach which saw the 550, an archival, long-dormant basketball silhouette, catapult back into the limelight, capturing the zeitgeist in a way few other sneakers managed.
This season, the two reunite to continue down this path, turning their attention to the outdoor world, reissuing the Rainier boot from 1982. It’s part sneaker, part go-anywhere boot, with nubuck overlays, GORE-TEX underlays and a grippy Vibram outsole. As to be expected, it’s elevated in typical Teddy Santis fashion, with a tasteful brown and burgundy palette and co-branded tongue detailing.
