24 November 2023Inspired by the iconic Douglas Fir smiley face in Columbia’s home state Oregon, the outdoor brand unveils their sophomore collection with END., dubbed “Douglas Fir”.
Following on from END. and Columbia’s 2020 collaboration “Lakeside”, the two brands return to the natural world for inspiration, channelling a symbol of positivity and playfulness – the Smiley Face Hill seen outside Willamina, Oregon – with their “Douglas Fir” collection.
Spotted south of Portland between the city of Willamina and Grand Ronde, an enormous smiling face can be seen across the hillside every autumn since 2011, bringing a spirited touch of positive outlook to the area as an emblem of Polk County’s expansive Douglas Fir forests. Channelling the Douglas Fir tree and the local landmark across the 16-piece collection, British brand END. and American outdoor experts Columbia journey into the wilderness with a variety of garments that feature bespoke prints inspired by the anatomy of the tree and the charming smiling face. Centred around the Trans Trekker, a rugged trail shoe built with Omni-Shield™ water and stain resistance, a Techlite+™ single density foam midsole, and outfitted with an Adapt Trax™ outsole, the two brands cultivate an aesthetic vision that riffs on the local point of interest. Detailed with a bespoke pattern, the Reversible Fleece Jacket introduces the collection’s connection to the Willamina smiling face, while the 2-in-1 Interchange Jacket sees END. delve into the Columbia archives, imbuing the Omni-TECH™ waterproof and Omni-HEAT™ Infinity outerwear piece with modular pocket features and a twist of END. energy through expressive colourways and co-branded details.
Ensuring you’re protected further from cold conditions, whether you’re exploring the countryside or navigating the city, the collaboration features a Fleece Pullover detailed with the Douglas Fir print, alongside a duo of Cargo Pants that blend utilitarian details with Columbia’s trademark Omni-SHIELD™ advanced water repellence.
The “Douglas Fir” collection is made complete with a trio of co-branded Omni-WICK™ jersey t-shirts, bearing the collection’s signature prints alongside an assortment of fleece accessories to protect you from inclement weather as winter arrives, such as caps, neck gaiters and hip packs. Collectively nodding to the smiley face at the core of the offering, each piece serves to commemorate the distinctive landmark and the positive outlook it embodies.
