At least 25% of this sneaker weighs in at pure trash. Introducing Space Hippie, one big step with a small footprint.
Nike’s mission is simple: create a shoe with our lowest carbon footprint yet. How? We’re using trash to make it. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have waste, and right now is our collective moment to tackle big problems with unconventional ideas. By diverting our factory scraps from landfills and waterways, spinning yarn from a heap of recycled materials, and using Nike Grind rubber to turn manufacturing waste into new shoes, the Space Hippie collection is one of those ideas. Made of 25%-50% recycled materials by weight, the Space Hippie 01, 02, 03, and 04 are each their own experiments in progress, because how we innovate now can impact how all of us play–today, and in the future. This is the story of trash transformed.
Space Hippie is a story of trash transformed. From the upper to the outsole, Space Hippie 04 is made of at least 25% recycled material by weight. Not only is it the most lightweight silhouette within the collection, it also has the lowest carbon footprint. Its ‘Space Waste Yarn’ upper includes about 75% recycled content by weight–made from recycled plastic bottles, t-shirts and yarn scraps. A soft, Crater Foam midsole combines Nike grind with a blend of foams for stability and a unique aesthetic.
